Identity theft is a fast-growing type of crime. It’s estimated that one-third of U.S. adults have experienced it. (That’s more than twice the global average, in case you were wondering.) There’s a new victim of identity theft every two seconds, and one in five victims has experienced it more than once! That’s why our ID Theft Protection program is such as great type of coverage to offer to offer to bank customers, credit union members, or to an association or affinity group.
We make it easy to offer this valuable benefit. We can work with your organization to develop an ID Theft Protection program that works best for your entity’s unique needs and promote it to your members/customers. We oversee customer service, fulfillment, premium billing, collection and claims verification.
Want to offer some practical tips to your membership/customer base for preventing ID theft? Here are some of the most simple and effective ways to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.
Carry as little information as possible. Avoid carrying your Social Security card or passport with you unless you’re headed somewhere where you specifically need those two forms of identification. Don’t write a lot of checks? Re-evaluate whether you should carry your checkbook everywhere you go. Think twice about carrying more than two credit cards in your wallet.
Shred documents before they end up in the trash. Keep a shredder handy to safely dispose of personal information such as credit card and bank statements and credit card receipts. Many shredders can easily fit on a desk or kitchen counter.
Proceed with caution when shopping/banking online. Before submitting personal or financial information through a website, check for the locked padlock image on your browser’s status bar. Look for “https://” (rather than “http://”) in your browser window. Don’t use an unsecured network (public wi-fi) to access private information unless you have taken additional security measures that prevent others from seeing your online activity.
Keep close tabs on your accounts. Carefully monitor your bank and credit card statements each month to make sure all transactions are accurate. With online access, you can check your accounts as often as you wish! If you suspect a problem, contact your credit card company or bank immediately.
Carry ID theft coverage. ID Theft Protection is an affordable and simple way to protect yourself in today’s world.
